Tottenham are interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix
Tottenham Hotspur endured an injury crisis last season, impacting their performances hugely in the Premier League. Their defensive unit was badly hit, and barring Pedro Porro, every single defender from the current roster spent time on the sidelines.
To address the lack of depth in defence, Spurs have brought in Japanese prospect Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. At 20, Takai is expected to take time to adapt to the demands of fast-paced and physical nature of Premier League football, and Thomas Frank will slowly look to integrate him into his squad.
There has been constant chatter when it comes to the future of Cristian Romero at N17. The 2022 World Cup winner has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid since April, and even though Spurs have done well to resist their advances so far, latest report suggest the La Liga club are preparing a mega €80 million offer for their defensive star.

If the Lilywhites decide to accept the big offer for Romero, they will need to replace him in the squad. And the name of a new central defender has emerged on the club’s radar.
Crystal Palace defender on Tottenham radar
According to French publication L’Equipe, Tottenham are among several clubs interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. Borussia Dortmund have also added him in their list of their targets, while several Italian clubs have enquired about the Frenchman’s availability.
Maxence Lacroix joined Crystal Palace from Wolfsburg last summer and quickly cemented his spot in Oliver Glasner’s starting XI. He became a regular fixture in the Eagles’ three-man backline, racking up 35 Premier League appearances in his debut season in English football. The 25-year-old was a part of the Palace side that beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May.

Will Maxence Lacroix be a good option to replace Romero?
Lacroix got his first taste of English football this past season. He must be hoping to get better and impress more. The prospect of playing in the Champions League could be enticing for the French defender, but can he be relied to replace Romero at Tottenham?
In Glasner’s back-three system, Lacroix managed to showcase his skill set and deliver consistent displays. At Tottenham, which system Frank employs is everyone’s guess at the moment, but given the Danish tactician is tactically smart, a player of Lacroix’s quality should ideally thrive.
That being said, however, it will be a bit risky to bet on the Palace man to replace Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s backline. Plus, signing the 25-year-old will be a tough ask this summer as there is a big possibility that the Eagles lose Marc Guehi to Liverpool.
