Los Angeles FC remain hopeful of persuading Tottenham star Son Heung-min to make the move to MLS
Son Heung-min has been linked with an exit from Tottenham ever since the 2024/25 campaign ended, though talks have failed to progress on most occasions.
The 33-year-old’s contract was about to expire this summer, only for the club to trigger a one-year option in his deal and extend his stay until 2026. However, there is no clarity over his future at N17 and whether he will stay a part of new boss Thomas Frank’s plans moving forward.
The presence of Son Heung-min in the pre-season game against Newcastle United in Seoul next month is very important to the North London club. This is because if the forward is not part of Tottenham’s touring squad, they will reportedly miss out on as much as ’75 per cent of their fee’ for playing in Seoul – with that amount being halved if he travels but does not play in the game.

There is also a “key player clause” tied to the South Korea international being part of the action in Asia next month, so selling him before the tour is unlikely as Daniel Levy will in no way want to hamper the club’s finances.
Furthermore, Thomas Frank not naming a permanent captain to lead his team next season has only added to speculation surrounding Son’s future. The Dane staying coy when asked about the veteran forward’s future at the club last week in a press conference was another hint to the Hotspur Way chiefs of what he wants them to do.
Los Angeles FC pushing hard to land Son
According to a report from The Athletic, Los Angeles FC are pushing hard to sign Son as the club currently has designated spots open for filling. They are looking to bring him to MLS and there is hope within Los Angeles FC is that the Spurs star will be convinced to join the team for the rest of the 2025 season and beyond.

The MLS secondary window opens today (July 24) and runs through August 21, and as such, LAFC have started their work behind the scenes to lure the South Korean forward away from N17. Son is under no pressure to leave Spurs he has earned the right to assess his options carefully and decide on his future when the timing is right.
The 33-year-old seems to outside of Frank’s plans at the club—at least as a regular starter. While he has earned the right to decide what is best for his future, the head coach is there to make choices over what he feels will be best for the club presently and in the long run. That said, it will be interesting to see whether LAFC can convince Son of their project and make an offer to Tottenham.
