Tottenham backed to make a move for Manchester United attacker as Son Heung-min’s replacement

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur have had a very decent summer transfer window so far. They brought in Thomas Frank from Brentford to replace Ange Postecoglou at the helm and have also made the signing of West Ham attacker Mohammed Kudus who has been brilliant during the friendlies.

The North London club will be keen to make further reinforcements to the team to give the Danish tactician a competitive advantage going forward. Having broken their trophy curse last season by lifting the Europa League, it is important that Tottenham build on the momentum and take the project to the next level.

One thing that has to be said about the Spurs squad, even as things stand, is that they have a very young team brimming with talent. There isn’t much that Frank has to do to improve this squad and what matters more is to get the players to buy into the vision and be competitive on the pitch.

A potentially emotional exit?

That said, one player who could leave the club this summer, which would be a massive sporting and emotional blow is captain Son Heung-min. The South Korean is in talks with LAFC over a potential move this summer and should he leave, the club would be forced to sign a new left-winger to replace their talisman.

Ex-scout Mick Brown has spoken about the situation as quoted by Football Insider, backing Tottenham to make a move for Manchester United outcast Alejandro Garnacho to replace Son Heung-min on the left-wing. He said:

“Alejandro Garnacho is certainly one of the names on Tottenham’s list. It looks like they might be losing Son, whether that’s to the MLS or the Saudi league, so they are already looking at options to replace him. Garnacho has been a very impressive player for Man United. He’s got loads of promise and I’m surprised Amorim is so willing to let him go. I think he’d be an excellent addition for Tottenham and he’s definitely one they are interested in.”

However, Brown has added that although there is definite interest in Garnacho, Spurs will need to address the South Korean superstar’s future before making a move for the 21-year-old Argentinian. The transfer insider has hinted that it could take until the end of the summer window for this move to happen. He continued:

“The only issue I have is what the price tag will be, because Man United publicly pushing him out has shown their hand, they need to get rid of him. They’re going to struggle to get big money for him so they might have to drop the asking price. I think it’s one that will happen in the closing stages of the window, when United need to sell and Tottenham can take advantage of that situation. As I say, particularly if they lose Son, because he’s going to need replacing.”

Garnacho would be a very good addition

Garnacho would be an excellent addition to the Tottenham attack. Undoubtedly, the last 12 months haven’t been easy for the 21-year-old but it is safe to say that he has enormous talent that is waiting to be channelized in the right direction. After all, the player has shown that he can be quite consistent in the Premier League.

Ultimately, it could all come down to the future of captain Son Heung-min. Should he leave, it would mark the end of an era and would be a very emotional day for the N17 faithful. Spurs need to be patient in their pursuit of Garnacho and the coming weeks should provide a clearer picture on how this situation develops.
