Tottenham Hotspur will need to pay £52.5 million to sign Piero Hincapie
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a new centre-back in the ongoing summer transfer window, and the North Londoners have made an inquiry to bring in Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie to Hotspur Way. Although the Bundesliga giants are not willing to sell.
TBR Football, in their latest exclusive, insists that Leverkusen are refusing to entertain any bids for the 23-year-old Ecuadorian international, at least for now.
But the refusal from Leverkusen to sit at the negotiation table for Hincapie might not be the end of it, given that he has a hefty £52.5 million release clause in his contract at BayArena, which gives the North Londoners the exact understanding of how to land the 23-year-old.
RC is the only way to sign Hincapie this summer

Piero is someone who possesses exceptional potential, and we have seen him develop into a reliable player for his current employers when playing under Xabi Alonso (who was in charge at Leverkusen till the conclusion of the last season). And the Lilywhites interest in his signatures makes sense, given that he has very high potential and fits right into Daniel Levy’s recently adopted transfer policy of buying the player young. Moreover, he is also someone who can fit into the left back role, which makes him a bit versatile when needed.
When speaking about him, his agent once called him a “warrior,” and that is exactly how he depicts himself in the game. The 23-year-old is quite aggressive when it comes to tackles, but with the ball he is quite composed, and he has the kind of positional awareness that comes with experience (and which is well beyond his age).
But now the question arises whether the North Londoners are looking to pay the price for his signatures. Given his hefty release clause (£52.5 million), Daniel Levy will have to think hard before making the move to land his services. Although that being said, activating that RC is the only option because when we speak defensively, Leverkusen have already lost Jonathan Tah and Jeremie Frimpong this summer window, and now they have drawn a line. Pay the clause, or don’t bother.
Tottenham have company in race to sign Hincapie

That being said, Tottenham are not alone in the race for his signature, with other Premier League clubs also sniffing around the Ecuadorian international. Alongside the Lilywhites, the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, Chelsea and even Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Hincapie over the years, but the North Londoners are best placed to get his signature, given that Tottenham are in the Champions League and Daniel Levy has got that budget to flex his financial arm, and then there is a clear need to bring in some qualitative depth at the back.
We will see how this one goes, but given that it comes down to that mega money release clause, do you think Tottenham should be paying that to land Hincapie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
