Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United to the race for Oliver Boast
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to compound on their transfer policy to bring in more players that suit their ‘buy them young’ transfer policy that the North Londoners have adopted at Hotspur. Way of late. And the North Londoners have potentially got one up over Manchester United again as they get their hands on academy sensation Oliver Boast.
We saw how the Lilywhites went toe-to-toe with the Red Devils in the early weeks of the summer window in the race to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. And while Ruben Amorim’s side went on to win the race to the 25-year-old’s signature, the Lilywhites have struck back, but this one is not with a headline signing but instead with a statement steal.
Tottenham confirmed Boast arrival last week

We saw the North Londoners confirm the arrival of Oliver Boast from Leeds United in the past weeks. And while getting their hands on the teenager was not something that dominated a whole lot of headlines, it’s definitely something that has left the Manchester giants licking their wounds.
Wenham speaks about United interest in Oliver Boast

In a recent interview with John Wenham, who is the owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, United were pushing very hard to bring in Boast into their own youth setup at Carrington in the ongoing summer. But the North Londoners, who have been quite increasingly aggressive about their youth recruitment, beat the North Londoners to the final punch.
The former Leeds United academy striker has been tipped to lead the line for the Lilywhites under-18s in the ongoing season, and he will join a batch of ten new scholars who are entering the academy this summer. But it is clear that Tottenham has brought someone who is more than just another prospect, with Wenham believing that Spurs has landed a real gem in Boast.
He also goes on to give us some historical hints into why a possible transfer from Leeds United to Manchester Reds was always going to be difficult.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“I expect him to be the starting striker for the Under-18s this season. I expect him to get a lot of goals, so he’s a really big signing, and to beat Man United is always good.
“But you have to remember that it’s very difficult for a player from Leeds to make that move to Man United because of the rivalry between the two clubs. And I don’t know how much that may have played into it as well.”
We are quietly looking at Tottenham building a strong record of getting one over Manchester United over the past year, which translates both on and off the pitch. And with three wins and two draws in their last five meetings, which is now complemented by a big win in the youth market, it just shows that the dynamic has shifted.
And while Brentford ended up signing Mbeumo, Tottenham have won the longer game, as they get someone who they can build the next frontman with in Boateng.
