Inter Miami have joined the race to sign £190k-per-week Tottenham Hotspur star

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur continued their pre-season preparations with a very promising display against Arsenal in the North London derby in Hong Kong. The game ended 1-0 with Pape Matar Sarr scoring a long-range screamer.

Spurs have had a solid summer transfer window so far. The appointment of Thomas Frank was almost as good as a new signing, with the Danish tactician taking over from Ange Postecoglou. The club also brought in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.

The Ghanaian has made an immediate impression during pre-season. Even as Frank & co. keep preparing towards the upcoming season, there is one elephant in the room that the club need to address.

The elephant in the room

Spurs still don’t have clarity on the future of club captain Son Heung-min. Thomas Frank is yet to be clear on whether or not he can count on the South Korean for the upcoming season with interest from MLS growing with every passing day.

Now, as per Team Talk, Inter Miami have joined the race to sign Son this summer. Earlier, it seemed to be just LA FC who wanted to sign him but David Beckham’s club have now added to Spurs’ headache.

As per the report, Tottenham are trying to get their club captain to sign a new contract. It is unlikely to be a long-term deal with only a one-year extension likely to be on the table for the 33-year-old N17 legend.

A chance to embark on a new journey

Son Heung-min currently earns around £190k-per-week at Tottenham. A move to North America would not only give him a better salary package, but if he were to choose Inter Miami, he would also get the chance to play with the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Rodrigo de Paul, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

Son has been a great servant for the North London club for the past decade and should he wish to leave, one can only hope that Daniel Levy doesn’t stand in his way. The club has a well-rounded squad that can cope even without their talisman.

Ultimately, it all comes down to what the Tottenham captain wants to do. If he commits to spending another season at the club, Thomas Frank will surely have a role for him and if he doesn’t, then, the N17 faithful would stand up and applaud as a bonafide club legend embarks on a new journey. The ball is pretty much in his court and the decision could emerge in the coming days.
