Tottenham Hotspur have a very well-rounded squad to compete on all fronts this season but the injury suffered by James Maddison could throw a spanner in the works for the North London club.
With both Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski out injured at the moment, it leaves Spurs without a #10. Of course, there are options like Mohammed Kudus who can play there but talents would be better utilized out on the wing.
Thus, Spurs might almost be forced to dip into the market for a new midfielder to replace Maddison, especially if the latter is confirmed to have a long-term injury in the coming days.
Tottenham are the likely destination for Gallagher

Now, as per Football Espana, Tottenham have emerged as the likely destination for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher. The Englishman has fallen down the pecking order for Diego Simeone after the arrival of new signings.
Gallagher moved to Atletico from Chelsea only one season ago and had a decent stint under Simeone. However, it has appeared that Atletico are exploring what kind of offers they can get for the “priceless” Englishman and would move him on for the right fee.
The 25-year-old impressed for Atletico last season, playing in a number of positions. He was used in both attacking and defensive roles in midfield and at times, even on the wing and he managed to do a job everywhere.
Premier League clubs still want to sign him
Now, the report mentions that there are a number of Premier League clubs interested in his services. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is said to be a big fan of his with even Nottingham Forest credited with interest.
For now though, Spurs look like the most likely destination. That said, Gallagher might be able to play as a #10 but he is very different to Madders and Kulusevski and is not as creative as the aforementioned duo.
At the right price, it would make sense for Tottenham to sign Gallagher. He could hold fort as the #10 until the first-choice options return and can also offer squad depth across various positions on the pitch. Let’s wait and see if the Lilywhites wrap up a deal for him in the coming weeks.
