Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is garnering strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur amidst competition from Arsenal
Tottenham need to up their ante in the transfer market after the news broke out that James Maddison has ruptured his ACL. The Lilywhites have endured a relatively slow summer in terms of incomings, and fans will hope that the situation changes in the coming days. The North London club are now forced to bring in an attacking midfielder for next season quickly.
Thomas Frank relies heavily on his midfielders to create goal-scoring opportunities during build-up play. Most of the chances are created by the attacking midfielders, and having a good #10 is a necessity for the Danish tactician. With James Maddison now missing most parts of the season, Spurs are left with no natural attacking midfielders in their ranks.

A deal to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White also fell through, despite Spurs triggering the player’s release clause. Forest accused the Lilywhites of breaching the England international’s confidential contractual details. And they also managed to somehow convince Gibbs-White to sign a new contract extension, forcing the North London club to look at other alternatives instead.
Tottenham are urged to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze
There is no surprise that Tottenham have turned their heads towards signing a new attacking midfielder. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites are planning to hijack a potential deal involving Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and Arsenal. Daniel Levy has taken notice of the fact that the Gunners are taking too long to seal the deal. And the Spurs chairman is keen to bring the Palace star to N17 instead by paying the asking price.
Now, Tottenham icon Jermain Defoe has also urged the club to sign the versatile attacker. Speaking on talkSPORT, Defoe said,
“Eze is someone who, if this makes sense, is a Tottenham player, someone who plays with freedom, and you look at the great players over the years that the players have had. Technically, how good he is and how confident he is and another special footballer.”
The ex-Spurs player added,
“If that can happen, then it will be only good for the team, because when you get the injuries, you need to replace these players.”
Jermain Defoe believes Eberechi Eze is tailor-made for Tottenham as he plays with freedom and likes to showcase ability on the pitch. The club icon also points out that Eze is technically solid and plays football with confidence. Defoe then suggests that signing the Crystal Palace star will benefit Spurs, as Eze will provide good depth for the whole season.

There is no denying the fact that the 27-year-old possesses immense quality. He is a perfect fit for Tottenham, and Jermain Defoe also believes that the attacking midfielder is a ‘special’ player. Signing him will surely elevate the quality of the attack, and he would be an upgrade on James Maddison in more ways than one.
