Tottenham Hotspur target Koni De Winter has agreed to join AC Milan
Tottenham Hotspur still have issues to address in their squad with less than a week left for the new season to commence.
The north Londoners lost James Maddison for a long spell on the sidelines following an ACL injury, while former skipper Son Heung-min ended his 10-year stay at N17 and moved to Los Angeles FC last week. As a result, they are now without a creative midfield option, as Maddison has joined Dejan Kulusevski on the sidelines.
Spurs desperately need an attacking midfielder and are working to bring one to the club. In addition, reputable journalist Alasdair Gold claims that the Hotspur Way chiefs also have the signing of a new central defender on their agenda before the transfer window slams shut.
Tottenham boast two of the Premier League’s best centre-backs in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, but beyond them, Thoms Frank’s options are limited with both Kota Takai and Radu Dragusin injured. Recent reports claimed that the Lilywhites were one of the clubs considering a move for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw. However, the race for Thiaw’s signature has been won by Newcastle United.

Tottenham miss out on Genoa defender to AC Milan
Apart from losing out Thiaw to Newcastle, Tottenham are seemingly close to miss out on another defensive target.
Koni De Winter has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane for months thanks to his strong displays for Genoa. Rated as one of Serie A’s reliable defenders in recent times, the Belgian has been a coveted commodity in this summer transfer window. And now he looks set for a new adventure in Serie A itself.
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, AC Milan and Genoa have agreed a deal over Koni De Winter worth €20m. A verbal agreement was reached with Genoa and the player on Sunday. The final administrative details will be sorted before giving the green light to the 23-year-old to undergo medical examinations.

This news will come as a big blow for Tottenham, who had once viewed De Winter as a potential replacement for Romero. The four-cap Belgium international can operate as a full-back and defensive midfielder too, and such versatility could have added a lot of value to Frank’s squad. The 23-year-old has the mix of technical skills and physicality to thrive in the hustle and bustle of Premier League football, but De Winter has decided to continue his career in Italy.
As Milan have agreed a deal with Genoa for De Winter, Spurs must shift their focus elsewhere if they are seriously interested in recruiting a centre-back.
