Brighton star expected to ace Tottenham medical amid Transfer Buzz

Date:

Jan Paul van Hecke will have no problems clearing his medical at Tottenham Hotspur should a deal be agreed upon

The end of last season brought great joy to Tottenham fans after a long time. Under the leadership of Ange Postecoglou, the team won the Europa League final and defeated Manchester United to secure a place in the Champions League 2025/26. This victory changed the mentality of the club and raised new hopes.

Meanwhile, a new era has begun with Thomas Frank becoming the manager this summer. Already, attacking profiles like Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel have joined the team. The departure of Son Heung-min happened with a heavy heart, but the arrival of Joao Palhinha has given new strength to the midfield.

Heat of the transfer market

The atmosphere inside the club has changed, but the work of preparing the squad for the new season is still left. Thomas Frank and the board are well aware that it is necessary to strengthen the defence to stay fighting in the Champions League. This is why now the eyes are on the new centre-back. Many names have emerged this summer, but one name has been in constant discussion, which has attracted the interest of the fans.

Eye on Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke

Tottenham and Newcastle are among the clubs linked with a move for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke this summer

Both Tottenham and Newcastle United have their eyes on Brighton’s Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Since joining the South Coast Club in 2020, he has become a vital part of their defence. The Dutchman, valued at £43 million, had refused to sign a new contract until July 30, according to a report by Voetbal International. According to Dr Rajpal Brar, the 25-year-old missed two matches at the start of the season due to a groin injury, but did not require surgery and returned to full fitness. The subsequent head injury was also minor and is unlikely to cause any problems for him medically.

“He had a groin injury at the start of the season, but missed only two games and was playing regularly post it. He did not have to undergo surgery, and so he was back at 100 per cent right away. Even the head injury sustained later in the campaign was a minor one. I expect no issues with his medical.”

Deal prospects and competition

This race is not easy due to Newcastle’s interest, but Tottenham also have the Champions League card and the lure of Thomas Frank’s new project. Palhinha’s arrival has strengthened the midfield, but the defence still needs an experienced and reliable player. Van Hecke’s attributes and his experience in the Premier League make him an ideal choice.

Why would Thomas Frank want Van Hecke?

Thomas Frank prefers players in defence who are calm under pressure and comfortable in the passing game. Van Hecke fits this profile. His tackling timing is excellent, and he consistently impresses in aerial duels. The arrival of Kudus and Tel has added variety to the attack, but a solid backline is essential for success in the Champions League. Van Hecke’s arrival will also give Cristian Romero more freedom.

Another reason is that Thomas Frank knows that injuries can disrupt the team’s rhythm at any time. In such a situation, having a reliable and fit defender is essential. The 25-year-old’s experience and mindset will make Tottenham’s defence look more balanced and organised. If the board completes this deal, it could prove to be our most important signing of the coming season.
