Thomas Frank explains the reason behind accepting the Tottenham job in June
Tottenham Hotspur fans are excited to see how Thomas Frank gets on at N17 following his high-profile switch from London rivals Brentford.
The Danish tactician did a great job at Brentford, helping them get promoted to the Premier League in 2021. Not only that, but he also managed to make the West Londoners a solid mid-table team in the Premier League.
After a torrid last season in the Premier League that saw Spurs finish a lowly 17th, Daniel Levy decided to appoint Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement in a bid to bring much-needed stability to the club. The 51-year-old has big shoes to fill, especially after Ange guided the Lilywhites to the Europa League trophy in May in Bilbao. It is not going to be an easy task at all, but the Dane will back himself to make it count in his managerial career’s first-ever high-profile job.

Thomas Frank explains what made him accept the Tottenham job
After a not so memorable pre-season outing against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last week, Tottenham are preparing for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening in the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine. Frank has learnt about his team with each passing friendly fixture, hoping to use his tactical brain and experience to outwit Luis Enrique in the big European clash.
Ahead of the UEFA Super Cup, the Danish manager was asked in an exclusive interview with UEFA.com about what attracted him to join Tottenham in the summer. He said:
“Tottenham are a massive club. It’s a fantastic challenge to be involved in, and I’m really, really excited about it. The team is good, the players have good potential and I’m really looking forward to the season.
“It feels very natural to step into the role. Of course, I’m aware that there’s a difference between coaching Brentford and Tottenham in terms of – most likely – we will hopefully dominate more games. That means there’ll be phases of the game and principles in the way I see the game that we need to be more focused [on].
“It’s clearly a squad that, over the last few years, has been very, very offensive and very all-in on the ball. There’s big strengths in that and I’d like to keep and build on it, but maybe add a bit more balance throughout the game in terms of how we attack, but also be able to defend well.”

Tottenham can build on the Europa League success
There is no better way than build on the Europa League success by winning the Super Cup. Frank and his team’s only focus heading into the clash at the Bluenergy Stadium is to get their hands on the Super Cup. It is a one-off clash between Spurs and PSG, and a win for the Premier League side would not help maintain the winning culture within this squad, but also provide a massive boost heading into the new season.
Frank has already stated that he wants to make Tottenham ‘serial winners’ during his tenure in north London, and there is a great opportunity for him to become an instant hero for the fans by beating PSG in midweek. The expectations at Tottenham are a lot higher than what he had at his former club Brentford, so all eyes will be on him as the Dane takes in charge of his first competitive game as Spurs boss in Italy.
