Tottenham ready to sign 23-year-old South American star with obligatory purchase option

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur make an approach for Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie

The end of this summer transfer window is turning out to be quite an intense affair for Tottenham Hotspur. The North London side is still involved in several operations to further strengthen their team, but time is of the essence as there is less than a week left before the market closes.

Most of the efforts of Spurs in the market in this late stage have been focused on bringing in new offensive reinforcements for Thomas Frank’s team. However, they are also being linked with some players for other areas of the team, including the defense.

The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie is one defender who has been linked with the North London club quite strongly in the last few days. A recent report from Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Ecuadorian is now open to leaving Bayer Leverkusen before the transfer window closes, which is definitely a good sign for the Lilywhites.

Now, as per a new report from Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have already approached Bayer Leverkusen with a new offer for Hincapie. This new offer is that of a loan with an obligatory purchase option, which will be valued at €60 million, which is also the release clause of the defender. However, if such a deal is agreed upon, Spurs will have to start paying this sum only in 2026.

Spurs also discussing personal terms

Meanwhile, the North London club has also started discussing personal terms with the centre-back, who wants a move away from the Bundesliga side.

As things stand, Thomas Frank already has a very good center-back pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. This duo has put on some good displays early in this 2025-26 season, helping the team keep two clean sheets in the first two Premier League games of the season.

Thus, Hincapie is not an urgent signing for Tottenham, especially as the club has other weaker areas in the team to focus upon in this last stretch of the transfer window. Still, there is also no doubt that the Ecuadorian could be a very good addition to the Spurs backline, especially with his ball-playing skills and composure.
