Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has no chance of joining Tottenham in January
It turned out to be an open secret that Tottenham were looking to bolster their attack for this season as the club approached the business-end of the transfer window. The Lilywhites had targeted several players as they looked set for a massive rebuild under Thomas Frank. Not only that, but the North London club were keen to revamp the frontline in their efforts to back the Danish tactician.
Not to everyone’s surprise, Spurs were keen on bringing in a new left-winger that could compete with Mathys Tel for a spot in the starting eleven. With Heung-Min Son announcing his departure from N17 earlier last month, there was an urgent need to address the issue before the season commenced.

The Lilywhites also lacked manpower on the left-flank, with Mathys Tel being the only option for Thomas Frank to rely on. Daniel Levy’s search for a new left-winger came to a deadlock during the last few weeks of the transfer window, with the club pursuing Manchester City winger Savinho and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman simultaneously. However, Spurs signed neither of them and were left with an empty hand in the end.
Tottenham not willing to pursue Atalanta star Ademola Lookman in January
Well, Thomas Frank is keen to build on the Europa League success this season, with his team competing hard on all four fronts. To achieve that, the Danish tactician will need a strong squad that can be rotated week in week out without the performance levels dropping. It is fair to say that Spurs have enough depth in most positions on the pitch, but the left-wing is one position that they lack firepower in.
To address that issue, Tottenham were trying their best to land Atalanta star Ademola Lookman during the last few weeks of the transfer window. The Nigeria international had already outlined his intentions to leave the Serie A outfit, and Daniel Levy took notice of that. The prolific attacker was also ready to fly to London last week to seal the deal with the Lilywhites, but the deal fell as Spurs were not willing to pay the £43m asking price for his services.
Now, there is an update regarding Lookman’s future and if Spurs would look to reignite their interest in the 27-year-old. As per GiveMeSport, the North London club have made it clear that they have no intentions of pursuing a deal to land the Atalanta forward in January. Tottenham’s hierarchy remain huge admirers of Ademola Lookman, but there is a belief around Hotspur Way that the club is looking to pursue other deals instead going forward.
It looks like the Nigeria international will stay put at Atalanta for the time being, despite handing in a transfer request earlier in the summer. If Spurs do get back in the market for Lookman’s signature, then it is certain that the 27-year-old will prefer a move to N17. The chance to play regularly in the Premier League again and prove his worth is something that still tempts him to move to pastures new.
