Micky van de Ven had no concerns about securing regular playtime at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham star Micky van de Ven has made a name for himself at N17 since making the switch from Wolfsburg in 2023. The Dutchman has quite clearly become a fan favourite in North London, and it looks like he is ready to build on last season’s Europa League success this time around. Credit where it’s due, landing the 24-year-old has proven to be masterstroke by Daniel Levy and Co.
It is fair to suggest that Van de Ven has picked up right where he left off last season. The Netherlands international has already gotten on the scoresheet for Thomas Frank’s team in this campaign. Not only that, but the prolific centre-back has also played a crucial part in keeping two clean sheets in the first three Premier League games of the season.

His partnership with Cristian Romero at the heart of the defence is arguably the best in the Premier League this season. Both players complement each other well, and Spurs are a better team with their presence in the starting eleven. Micky van de Ven’s burst of pace with the ball, as well as, his positional awareness, make him a strong candidate to lead the line at N17 for years to come.
Micky van de Ven couldn’t turn down at Tottenham’s offer to play at N17
No matter how Micky van de Ven’s career at Tottenham pans out from now on, the Dutchman will always be remembered for the heroic goal-line clearance in the Europa League final in May. The 24-year-old somehow managed to keep the ball out of the net, ensuring that Tottenham’s lead stayed intact against Manchester United. And for that moment alone, the Spurs faithful will always be grateful to him.
Now, the prolific centre-back has shared what made him choose the Lilywhites in the summer of 2023. Speaking to Tottenham’s media team, Van de Ven said,
“When Tottenham comes up, a massive club in the Premier League, it was a shock for me. I was expecting to play more seasons in Germany to be honest. But when an opportunity like this comes up, you can’t really say no.”
The Spurs defender added,
“When I had the conversations with the club, straightaway I had a feeling that this is the club I want to join. And this is the club where I can develop myself the best. I had the feeling that I was going to get the minutes and I could develop myself the best at Tottenham.”
Micky van de Ven could not believe when Tottenham came knocking for his signature, and he had no doubts about joining the club as it was a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity. The Dutchman adds that he instantly believed in the project at N17 and thought that signing for the North London club would be the best decision for his development. Van de Ven also admits that the Lilywhites offered him regular minutes, as well as, considered him a key part of the team.
Fans will be happy to know that the Spurs defender does not regret moving to Hotspur Way, considering the fact that the team finished 17th in the Premier League table. However, there is a concern amongst the fans that Van de Ven might move to pastures new if there is a chance. The 24-year-old is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in 2026. So, the Lilywhites would need to act quick and find a way to keep him at N17 for a long time to come.
