With Thomas Frank taking over the reins at Hotspur Way, we are seeing a lot of players coming into their own at N17. And among them is Pape Matar Sarr, who has been impressive in early days playing under the Danish head coach.
He was on everyone’s lips after that goal against Arsenal in the preseason. And that was just the announcement that he needed. Since then the Senegalese has quickly climbed among the ranks under the former Brentford manager.
You could also go to that game against Manchester City in the Premier League, which was one of the best that he has played donning the Lilywhites badge. And then there was not a lot you could take out of His performance against Bournemouth. But if we are speaking in an overall sense, he has been quite impressive early in the ongoing campaign.
His performances suddenly make him one of the most integral parts of the system that Thomas Frank is trying to implement at Hotspur Way.
Sarr impressed on international duty

Sarr was one of the few players who spent the past couple of weeks away from N17, as he was called up to represent Senegal. And he was equally impressive representing his country, as he scored a couple of goals, helping Senegal in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
And John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, expressed how his performances in the past couple of games earned Sarr some brownie points with Sarr.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“Not only has he had an amazing start to the season.
“He’s also now picking up recognition for his form in Senegal, and scored a winning goal the other night.
“I saw some tweets from some commentators in France, just that he’s the best African midfielder at the moment, which is a huge compliment.
“Somebody so young, and seems to already be a firm favourite of Frank.”

Pape Matar Sarr has been really impressive for the North Londoners, and he has been showcasing how he can fill James Maddison‘s shoes in the first three games of the season. He has been deployed in a bit more of an attacking sense this season, and he has been showing how he can be a tactical menace playing there. And this is exactly what could help Tottenham in the long run.
We know how Thomas Frank likes midfielders who can play different roles in multiple facets of the game, and that is exactly what he gets in Sarr.
Do you think Sarr can take Maddison’s place in the starting lineup even after the Foxes midfielder returns? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
