“Absolute perfection” – Former Tottenham player speaks on pre-action for goal vs West Ham

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur returned to Premier League action after the international hiatus. The North Londoners made that short trip to London Stadium to face Graham Potter’s West Ham in a much-anticipated London derby.

The Lilywhites have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season. Thomas Frank has enjoyed a fantastic start to life at his new employers, given how well Tottenham have done early in the season. It was a professional performance against Burnley followed by an inspired one against Manchester City. But then Bournemouth came in and got the better of the North Londoners.

And coming into today’s London Derby, it was important for the Lilywhites to pick up that early-season form. And that is exactly what Tottenham did with total control in a structural environment.

It had been a quiet first half with a bit of controversy, but that was followed by a goal-laden second.

You can argue it would have been by some help from Tomas Soucek, who took a straight red for his late challenge on Palhinha.

And while the Hammers were still licking their wounds, the visitors had the ball in the back of the net. Tottenham scored just nine seconds after that straight red when Cristian Romero put in a lobbed ball in behind West Ham’s defence. The ball was met by an on-the-run Lucas Bergvall, who went on to score his first Premier League goal.

Paul Robinson speaks on that Bergvall goal

Bergvall scored Tottenham’s second vs West Ham at London stadium.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson was speaking about the goal, where he went on to describe the run as absolutely perfect.

Bergvall bisected West Ham defenders to run into the line and meet that looping ball from Romero with an excellent header to get Tottenham’s second of the evening.

And describing the goal, Robinson said:

“The ball is recycled and Romero floats it over the top of the West Ham back four and Lucas Bergvall times his run to absolute perfection.”

Do you think Bergvall is ready to fill Maddison’s shoes?

Tottenham had an inspired evening away at London Stadium. And more than that goal from Bergvall, how it came is more important. The Swedish midfielder is ready to show his capacity in front of the goal in Maddison’s absence. And that in itself is going to come very crucial for the North Londoners in the coming weeks, especially with Champions League football coming back this week.

What do you make of that goal from Lucas Bergvall and his overall performance against West Ham? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
