Swedish talent Lucas Bergvall tipped to achieve big things at Tottenham Hotspur
In recent years, Tottenham Hotspur have put special focus on signing young talent and developing them across the corridors of N17.
Spurs signed Kota Takai, Mathys Tel and Xavi Simons during the past summer transfer window to enhance their pool of young talent. During the 2024 summer transfer window, Archie Gray from Leeds United and Wilson Odobert from Burnley joined the north Londoners- both 19 and 20 years old respectively and with plenty of potential. Another prodigy that arrived at the club last year was Lucas Bergvall.
Lucas Bergvall officially arrived at Tottenham on July 1, 2024, after Spurs had agreed an £8.5m deal with Swedish side Djurgarden at the start of February. Before joining Djurgarden, he came up the youth ranks at IF Brommapojkarna and made his official debut for the club at a tender age of 15. Just a handful of appearances were enough for Djurgarden to snap him up on December 2022.

Former youth coach says Lucas Bergvall was the best talent at Brommapojkarna
Lucas Bergvall showcased his potential very early in his career at Brommapojkarna, and four years down the line, he is now at Tottenham playing in the Premier League and rubbing shoulders with the best players.
Brommapojkarna, now managed by former Premier League defender Olof Mellberg, boast one of the biggest academies in Europe with 260 teams and 4,000 players. The Stockholm-based club’s academy has produced several high-profile stars and Swedish internationals such as Dejan Kulusevski and Viktor Gyokeres. Bergvall’s former youth coach at Brommapojkarna, Peter Kisfauldy, has now shed light on the player’s potential.
“I worked with him when he was nine years old until 14. And directly after the first training session I was thinking ‘oh s***, this is something special’,” Peter Kisfauldy exclusively told in an interview with The Sun.
“He has always been the wonderkid that everyone is speaking about.
“I have worked in the Brommapojkarna academy for so many years; we had Gyokeres, Kulusevski, John Guidetti, and Ludwig Augustinsson, but Lucas has the most talent of anybody.
“He always had fantastic technique, and he is scanning the play, always, always the head is up high, and he is scanning the play. He always knows what the next step is.”
Bergvall is a special talent
Not a lot went right for Tottenham last season as they endured its worst domestic campaign in recent history. While they to end their 17-year wait for a trophy by winning the Europa League against all odds, it was simply not enough to overshadow the torrid Premier League season. And Bergvall was one of the rare bright spots from the campaign.
Not many had thought that Bergvall would become such a key player for the Lilywhites in his maiden year. The Sweden international looked well beyond his years and benched a couple of seasoned performers to maintain his place in the first XI. The central midfielder’s meteoric rise saw him being rewarded with a new long-term contract in April, with the club securing the teenage prodigy’s future.
Certainly a special talent, Bergvall is expected to play a key role for the north Londoners under Frank this season and beyond.
