Tottenham are hopeful that Dejan Kulusevski will return to full fitness in a few months’ time

Tottenham have managed to back Thomas Frank in the summer transfer window as the Lilywhites are looking to turn their fortunes around in the Premier League. The North London club are aiming for a top-half finish in the league this season under the Danish tactician after ending last season just a place above the relegation zone.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the club was in sorts of trouble in the Premier League. They registered 22 losses in the league, making it evidently clear that the club had shifted all its focus towards the Europa League run. And it is fair to say that the gamble worked in Big Ange’s favour as he ended Spurs’ 17-year long trophy drought by winning the competition against all odds.

Tottenham are hopeful that Dejan Kulusevski will return to full fitness in a few months' time.
Dejan Kulusevski is hoping to make a quick recovery and make an impact for Tottenham under Thomas Frank.

But there were still a lot of underlying problems in the squad that needed addressing. The lack of form and bad results in the Premier League meant that Ange Postecoglou ended up getting sacked in June. However, there were a few bright points that came out from the horrendous showing on the pitch. And one of them was Dejan Kulusevski.

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has a big role to play this season

Dejan Kulusevski certainly stepped up when the going got tough for Tottenham last season. The Sweden international was head and shoulders better than any other player in the squad. And his consistent performances on the pitch highlighted his importance in the team under Ange Postecoglou. Operating either as a left-winger, or a #8 under Big Ange, the 25-year-old managed to make constant impact for Spurs when it mattered the most.

Yet, some fans have slept on the versatile attacker’s ability as he recovers from his long-term injury that he endured in May. John Wenham has now urged these fans to stop being ‘delusional’ and value Kulusevski’s impact in the team. Speaking on Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“I personally think people are sort of sleeping on how good he is and then forgetting how good he is. Last season, I know it was a tough season in the league, but he was comfortable until he got injured. Head and shoulders, not only our best player, but one of the best players in the Premier League in terms of his overall contribution.”

The Lilywhite Rose owner added,

“I think he’s an outstanding player, and I keep seeing people’s predicted best lineups when everyone’s fit and anyone not including him is deluded, quite frankly. He walks into our 11, whether that’s a number 10 or as the right-winger, I’m not sure.”

John Wenham believes Dejan Kulusevski was a standout player for Tottenham last season when everyone else was struggling to find consistency. The Lilywhite Rose owner also adds that he was one of the best players in the league too, and when fit, the Swede would walk into the starting eleven at N17 once he recovers from his long-term injury.

The 25-year-old can either be operated as a left-winger, or as a #10 under Thomas Frank. Kulusevski’s eventual resurgence in the team would impact Brennan Johnson or Richarlison the most as the prolific attacker would link up well with Xavi Simons and the other new signings. It remains to be seen how the Danish tactician utilises Kulusevski once the ex-Juventus star recovers from his injury.
