“We’ll see”- Serie A forward faces ‘unpleasant situation’ as Tottenham plot January move

Date:

Tottenham have set their eyes on landing Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman

Tottenham are hoping to kickstart a new era at N17 under the Lewis family’s guidance. The Lilywhites stunned the footballing world last week after they announced the shock departure of Daniel Levy. The decision to relieve the Englishman of his duties signalled a clear intention from the hierarchy that the North London club is shifting its focus to on the field matters again.

It is fair to say, however, that Levy left Hotspur Way on a high after overseeing one of Spurs’ best summers in recent memory. The Lilywhites managed to sign some top-quality players that would bolster the squad instantly. Not only that, but the North London club also made sure that each player that they signed was suited to Thomas Frank’s system.

The signings of Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani proved to be a statement of intent from Tottenham. Bringing these players to N17 has bolstered the attacking line, and it has also given Thomas Frank a solid platform to build on the Europa League success this season.

Tottenham might be able to land Atalanta star Ademola Lookman in January

Before Tottenham signed Randal Kolo Muani on deadline day earlier this month, the North London club had its sight set on Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman. The Lilywhites spent a good chunk of the summer trying to lure the Nigerian to N17 and were even willing to meet the £43m asking price set by the Serie A side. However, the deal ultimately fell through after both clubs failed to reach an agreement for the player.

The failed transfer now appears to have had major implications for Lookman, as the 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Ivan Juric. When asked about the Nigerian’s omission from Atalanta’s Champions League squad, he said (via Tuttomercato),

“Lookman in Paris? I don’t think so. The situation is unpleasant and not a good one. He gave so much to Atalanta, and Atalanta gave so much to him. We need players who are ready, who want to grow and stick with it. We’ll see in the future.”

Juric’s comments have handed Spurs a major boost in their pursuit of Lookman in January. It was reported earlier this week that the Lilywhites are keen to revive their interest in the prolific forward in the winter. With Thomas Frank being a huge admirer of the 27-year-old, Tottenham could be in a position to strike a deal for a reduced fee of around £20million.

Signing the Nigeria international in January would give Spurs an excellent opportunity to build on their Europa League success this season. Lookman significantly strengthen the attack, offering the Lilywhites a different dynamic in the final third of the pitch. Having already played in the Premier League with Everton, the 27-year-old is also unlikely to need much time to settle in.
