Ex-Brentford manager feels Tottenham will do well to keep hold of Lucas Bergvall if Real Madrid come calling
Lucas Bergvall has made huge strides since making his debut for Tottenham Hotspur last season.
Amid an injury crisis, the teenager emerged as one of the bright spots for former boss Ange Postecoglou. The Sweden international had an impressive debut season in England and was rightly rewarded with a new contract by Spurs.
The midfielder has played a chief role in Tottenham’s strong start to the 2025/26 season under new boss Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites have won five out of seven games in all competitions, and Lucas Bergvall’s contributions have been major. It is fair to say that he is becoming undroppable from the first XI.
Such has been the 19-year-old’s meteoric rise that he’s already been tipped to become Tottenham’s captain in the future.

Former Brentford manager feels Tottenham will face an uphill battle to keep Lucas Bergvall
Bergvall has even impressed his Tottenham teammates this season, with Joao Palhinha astonished that he was just 19. Worryingly, the youngster’s eye-catching performances for Spurs have attracted the interest of Real Madrid. Indeed, with talk of Real Madrid being interested, the north Londoners face an uphill battle to keep hold of the Swedish talent, who is touted as the next ‘Jude Bellingham’.
Ex-Brentford manager Martin Allen has been discussing the midfielder’s rise at Tottenham. He believes Real Madrid will certainly soon be potential suitors for Bergvall, something the north London may have to take seriously.
“He’s got his best years ahead of him,” Martin Allen exclusively told Tottenham News.
“Tottenham must have tied him down to a long-term contract because clubs like Real Madrid are going to be looking at him; they are going to be taking an interest.
“So they’re going to do well to keep hold of him, I think.”

Can Spurs keep hold of Bergvall?
Tottenham did very well back in April to secure Bergvall’s future until 2031. He has made a swift impression since arriving at N17 and has not been shy about his ambitions. After penning his new deal, the teenage prodigy spoke openly about his desire to win trophies at White Hart Lane, making it clear that he sees himself as part of the north London club’s future success.
This should be pleasing to hear for the club officials and fans, but it also rises the responsibility of the Lilywhites to become competitive every season and win trophies. The north London club ended their 17-year trophy drought in May by winning the Europa League, and our new boss Thomas Frank must build on that success this season.
Real Madrid poached the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from Spurs in the last decade, so they would not find it difficult to lure Bergvall away. This is why it is important for Tottenham to become successful if they intend to keep hold of their best talents and players.
