AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche might head for pastures new in the winter as Tottenham circle around for his signature
Tottenham capped off the summer transfer window on a high note by securing several high-profile attacking signings. The Lilywhites brought in Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, and Randal Kolo Muani to strengthen their frontline and boost their chances of closing the gap on their rivals. However, one glaring issue on the pitch still remains unaddressed.
The North London club’s failure to recruit a new left-winger could prove costly for Thomas Frank this season. After Heung-Min Son announced his departure from N17, Spurs spent much of the summer searching for a replacement for the legendary winger. Yet, they were unable to land one, leaving Frank to rely on Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel.

Both players have struggled to make an impact under the Danish tactician this season. Tel, in particular, has failed to impress Frank after a string of underwhelming performances for the Lilywhites. The 20-year-old was even omitted from the club’s Champions league squad this season due to his poor form. Odobert, meanwhile, has not been afforded enough game time to consistently showcase his abilities for Spurs.
Tottenham want to sign AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche
Tottenham pulled out all the stops in their bid to sign a new winger after Heung-Min Son decided to leave for pastures new in the summer. The Lilywhites even entered advanced negotiations with AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche, who had given the green light for the move. However, the deal collapsed after Spurs failed to reach an agreement with the Ligue 1 giants for the 23-year-old.
Despite the setback, Tottenham are prepared to rekindle their interest in the Frenchman as they look to secure his signature in January. Speaking to TEAMtalk, Dean Jones has said,
“One of the players I am told they have had eyes on from an attacking point of view is Maghnes Akliouche, and they will actually be very interested in seeing how he fares in an upcoming Champions League game against Man City.”
The journalist added,
“He’s played every minute for Monaco so far this season and plays off the right, but there is a belief he can also be versatile, and he has a very high ceiling in the game. Monaco rate him highly and would be putting a premium fee on his head if the interest steps up in the new year as they do not want to lose him.”
Tottenham have renewed their pursuit of Akliouche after suffering a major setback in their chase for Manchester City’s Savinho. The Lilywhites are eager to bring in a versatile attacker who can play on either wing as well as in the #10 role under Thomas Frank – And Akliouche appears to tick all the boxes. However, AS Monaco are expected to increase his price tag as they are reluctant to part with him midway through the season.
Signing Akliouche would certainly add more depth in the squad for Thomas Frank. Renowned for his dribbling skills and ability to create chances from wide areas, Akliouche excels at taking on defenders and driving into space, where he can showcase his finishing prowess. All in all, the addition of the AS Monaco winger would significantly bolster Tottenham’s attacking options.
