Ruben Neves showing no signs of extending his stay at Al-Hilal as Tottenham Hotspur circle
Tottenham have made an impressive start to the new Premier League season under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites have won three of their opening five matches, keeping three clean sheets in the process. The Danish tactician’s positive yet pragmatic approach has not gone unnoticed either, earning widespread praise from fans.
Despite the positive results this season, one glaring issue from the summer transfer window remains unresolved. Spurs failed to sign a new midfielder to strengthen their squad and add much-needed depth in the middle of the park. Given how important central midfielders are to Frank’s system, fans will hope that Daniel Levy’s incompetence does not come back to haunt the club later in the campaign.

At present, Frank has no natural cover for Joao Palhinha in the middle of the park. The 30-year-old is the only recognised holding midfielder in the first-team squad, leaving Spurs vulnerable should he pick up an injury. While Yves Bissouma can fill in as a #6, the Mali international has slipped down the pecking order at N17 due to disciplinary issues.
Tottenham eyeing a possible deal for Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves
Reports have linked Tottenham with Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves. The Portugal international is in the final year of his contract with the Saudi club and is not expected to extend his stay. Al-Hilal are reportedly willing to sell if a club matches their £17m asking price, with Neves keen on a return to the Premier League.
Seeing that Neves is ready to head back to England, Bryan King has urged Spurs to do everything they can to land him. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“He (Neves) would certainly be a good addition to Spurs’ squad. He did very well in the Premier League when he played here before; he was always a name that was at the forefront for Wolves.”
The ex-scout added,
“He’s young enough to still have a future somewhere in Europe, be it in the Premier League or somewhere else. To get a player of that quality for that kind of price, Spurs would be foolish not to go for it. They’ve certainly got to make a move to bring him in.”
Bryan King believes Ruben Neves’ Premier League experience from his time at Wolves would make him an ideal fit for Tottenham. The ex-scout insists the Portuguese midfielder still has the quality to perform at the highest level and would be a bargain signing at £17m.
It is fair to say Neves would slot seamlessly into Thomas Frank’s midfield. Renowned for his tenacity and leadership, the 28-year-old plays with grit and hunger to win back possession. His excellent passing range and long-range shooting ability would also bring an added dimension to Spurs’ engine room – making him a perfect candidate to strengthen the squad at N17.
