Tottenham Hotspur touted as a potential destination for Julian Brandt
Tottenham Hotspur have continued their search for a new attacking midfielder from the summer window. And the North Londoners have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund ace Julian Brandt in the past week.
But as the Lilywhites supporters were getting excited about the potential of landing the silky midfielder, reports in Germany (via. Sport Witness) emerged suggesting that the 29-year-old may have played a clever Tottenham hand as his contract saga continues with Dortmund. It insists that he used Tottenham Hotspur’s name in the middle of it.
Julian Brandt linked with Tottenham

There were reports from Bild which suggested that Tottenham were interested in Brandt’s signature, with Aston Villa as well as Newcastle United also listed as potential suitors for the German international. Given that he is out of contract with his current employers when the next summer comes around, that is where these speculations come from.
But given how he is suddenly playing some of the best football of late, it has strengthened his position at the negotiation table with Dortmund. He provided two assists in the 5-0 win over Mainz last week. And now the reports suggest that these supposed links with all the Premier League sides (including Tottenham) may just have been a negotiation tactic that they used to “improve his negotiating position”. So it may not really reflect a genuine exit plan from him and his representatives.
TTLB Opinion

When the initial links came through, it did look like Brandt would be a considerable option at Tottenham. Given that he is a versatile attacking presence and has that experience in the Champions League. And the fact that Tottenham have a young squad of Xavi Simons, Lucas Bergvall, and Wilson Odobert, bringing someone like the 29-year-old German maestro was a reasonable option.
But given that it could only be a negotiation tactic, something that people around the footballing world would be quite familiar with. So Tottenham would instead continue to look for high-energy young players, given the transfer policy that the club has adopted in the final years of the Daniel Levy era at Hotspur Way. The Lilywhites do need to bring in a creative presence, given how Tottenham struggled with creativity at the weekend against Wolves, which showed this dire need.
If the links were genuine, would you have taken Julian Brandt at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
