Daniel Levy told to pick this PL boss over Thomas Frank last summer; in-demand boss backed for the top

Date:

Simon Jordan wanted Daniel Levy to opt for Oliver Glasner over Thomas Frank

Before Thomas Frank took charge at Tottenham, Simon Jordan openly suggested Daniel Levy should have gone for Oliver Glasner instead. Jordan described the Austrian as a “top, top manager” and said he was surprised Spurs didn’t approach him.

Here’s what Jordan told talkSPORT:

“I like Glasner. With all due respect to the departed, I actually said to Daniel [Levy, ex-Tottenham chairman] during the summer, ‘Why not Glasner?'”

“I think he’s a top, top manager. Do I think he will be Palace manager at the end of the season? I’ll be bloody amazed.”

Glasner has been making waves at Crystal Palace, keeping the team unbeaten in their last 18 games despite losing key players like Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in recent windows. With Marc Guehi also potentially leaving, Palace’s resilience under Glasner has caught many eyes.

Thomas Frank has had an enjoyable first few weeks as Tottenham boss.

South to North?

That said, Thomas Frank has quickly made a strong impression in north London. Spurs have looked sharper, more organised, and competitive under his guidance, with early results showing clear improvement from last season. Frank has brought a fresh energy to the squad, and his methods are already evident in how the team presses, moves, and defends.

It’s important to remember he is still settling in. Every manager needs time to implement their ideas fully, and Frank is no different. The squad has new signings to integrate, systems to adapt to, and a Premier League season that will test them in every area.

The early performances suggest Tottenham are responding well to his coaching. Players look more confident, and there is a sense of direction that was missing at times last season even though we lack a bit in the final third. Even matches that didn’t go perfectly still show evidence of the team learning and improving under Frank’s watch.

Things could have been very different if Tottenham signed Glasner instead of Frank.

Off the pitch, Frank’s calm and measured style seems to be rubbing off on the squad. Training sessions are structured, the tactical plans are clear, and there is an evident focus on building consistency over time. This could be a foundation for long-term success if the club backs him. If leaving behind the Daniel Levy-era can show us something, it must show that Tottenham can trust managers with time and patience.
