Numbers don’t lie- Tottenham star in a league of his own as incredible statistic comes to light

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro has made the most assists for any Premier League defender since 2024-25

Pedro Porro has quietly turned himself into one of the most decisive full-backs in Europe, and the numbers back it up. What makes it even more impressive is how naturally he has adapted to two very different managers in Ange Postecoglou and Thomas Frank without losing his edge or influence.

Since joining Tottenham he has produced 11 goals and 22 assists in 115 appearances across all competitions, output most traditional wingers would take. Under Postecoglou, Porro went from an adventurous wing-back to a full-back with licence to play like a playmaker. Ange’s high-tempo, possession-heavy system demanded constant movement, aggressive positioning and technical quality in the final third.

He thrived in that chaos. Ange trusted him to take risks on the ball and Porro repaid that faith with output and personality. His assist numbers surged, his chance creation stats spiked, and his confidence on the ball hit another level. Even when results dipped, his influence rarely wavered because Tottenham’s right side ran through him. He was as much a creator as Maddison or Kulusevski.

When Thomas Frank stepped in, the obvious question was whether Porro would keep that same freedom. Frank’s style is more balanced, less chaotic in possession, and slightly more pragmatic when games get cagey. Yet Porro has remained a central figure in how Spurs build up and break teams down.

Moments like the comeback against Bodo/Glimt in Europe underline why he matters so much. Two goals down and drifting, Spurs needed someone to change the tone. Porro did it with one delivery, sticking a perfect cross on Micky van de Ven’s head and sparking the turnaround. That wasn’t a one-off.

He has 18 assists since the start of last season, more than any other defender at a Premier League club. For a player who is constantly told to work on the defensive side of his game, he continues to answer in the best way possible which is making a difference when it matters the most.

However, the one underlying factor is Spurs having to leave things late. It is imperative that the Lilywhites start taking charge of things in games much earlier. We cannot leave things to the end as always. Even against Wolves, it took individual brilliance by Joao Palhinha to level things up, or things could have gone south in that game too.

Anyways, the fact remains that we have to have a neat balance between attack and defence. We have a strong base. For Spurs, having a full-back who produces like an attacker changes the entire dynamic of the team. Porro isn’t just a luxury piece, he’s become one of the pillars of how Tottenham play. With Micky and Cuti making the core of the defence, having Pedro and Destiny provide that moment of spark more often than not to create differences.
