Guehi’s calm before the storm: O’Rourke sheds light on uncertain future of Tottenham Hotspur target

Tottenham Hotspur’s long-standing interest in Marc Guehi has stirred fresh whispers again, yet the defender himself remains calm. The 24-year-old keeps his focus, carrying out his duties for Crystal Palace and England with quiet assurance.

Transfer rumours continue to swirl, but Guehi has kept his attention on performances. His displays speak louder than any contract talk. We reported earlier, on 13 September, that Tottenham Hotspur-linked Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is set to be available, and that prediction grows stronger each week.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the Inside Track podcast, said Guehi refuses to rush his decision about the future. The 25-year-old centre back is letting things unfold naturally, and he knows he controls his next move. His contract at Palace is running down, and O’Rourke believes he will leave on a free transfer next summer.

A January deal might happen, but that seems less likely. For now, he intends to finish his deal and stay sharp for both club and country. O’Rourke added that Liverpool still chase his signature. However, the defender holds all the power.

He’s very relaxed about his future, you can see in the press conferences he’s done with Palace and England.

Guehi’s focus at the minute is just on Crystal Palace, playing well for them and playing well for England ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

“He is determined to be part of the squad that goes to the World Cup, and to make sure of that, he needs consistency at club level as well.

“Look, it’s almost inevitable that he will leave Palace on a free transfer next summer. I don’t think there’s any chance he will sign a new contract.

“He’s content to see out his contract there, and a January deal could be possible, but I think it’s more likely this will run until the end of the season.

“In that respect, it will be an open race for his signature on a free next summer.

“Liverpool are still fully in this race for Guehi, but the player’s in the box seat right now and that’s why he’s so relaxed because he will have a lot of control over his future.

The Englishman’s consistent form keeps attracting interest from across Europe. We brought in a recent report that there is a strong chance that Guehi could also opt for a move abroad if the right project presents itself. This shows that he might look beyond the Premier League for his next chapter.

Guehi’s influence and what comes next for Palace?

Guehi brings more to Crystal Palace than statistics can show. As a captain, he keeps his teammates calm and organised. The 25-year-old leads a young squad through difficult matches with maturity that is not so common at this age. His clear decision-making under pressure gives Palace a strong assurance at the backline. Guehi’s tackles hold purpose, and he has won 42 aerial balls in seven league games this season.

In possession, Guehi keeps the rhythm going. He has completed 51 passes with 85.8% accuracy so far and often starts moves from deep. The Crystal Palace captain’s steady passing helps Palace build attacks with patience and control.

Palace know how much he matters to them, and that’s why they rejected Liverpool’s offer last summer. They couldn’t find a replacement who matched his mix of leadership and composure. That choice now looks wise as Palace compete in Europe, where Guehi’s control remains key. Unless an exceptional offer arrives in January, Guehi will most likely plan to stay until his contract ends and help Palace progress. However, the club must prepare for his exit next summer. Still, he continues to give his best every game.

Guehi’s story moves toward an inevitable farewell, but he leaves an impression of focus and respect. Fans can trust him to keep leading with the same authority that defines his game. Tottenham supporters, should Spurs reignite their interest and make a strong move for Guehi in January?
