Tottenham are plotting a January swoop for Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sucic
Thomas Frank has made a solid start to his managerial career at Tottenham Hotspur, taking them to third in the Premier League after seven games. Spurs have advanced to the Carabao Cup fourth round and have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their Champions League campaign under the 51-year-old.
However, the Danish tactician is not blind to the gaps in his squad. The ACL injury sustained to James Maddison, coupled with Yves Bissouma’s expiring contract and Pape Matar Sarr heading to the AFCON in mid-December, could potentially leave Tottenham light in midfield for the second half of the season. While Rodrigo Bentancur has signed a new long-term deal and Lucas Bergvall has stepped up since the start of the campaign, Thomas Frank is seemingly pushing for a proven option.
The Spurs boss has prioritised reinforcing the midfield unit when the transfer window reopens in January, and it looks like he already has a player in mind.

Tottenham eye move for Real Sociedad talent
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are interested in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sucic. He has a €25million release clause in his contract at Real Sociedad, with Inter Milan, as well as several clubs from England vying for the midfielder’s signature.
Real Sociedad paid €10million to sign Luka Sucic from RB Salzburg in August 2024, and it looks an absolute bargain for them now. While Real Sociedad did not have the best of seasons and missed out on Europe for the first time in seven years, the Croatian international himself had a positive season at the Reale Arena. He was selected as the club’s Player of the Year, which was a fantastic personal accolade.
A poor start to the 2025/26 season has heaped pressure on Sergio Francisco, who was appointed in the summer after Imanol Alguacil’s departure. Under Sergio Francisco, Sucic, however, has failed to establish himself in the first XI. The 23-year-old has started just once in La Liga and racked up 121 minutes across four appearances.
This could open the exit door for Sucic if his situation at Sociedad does not change, especially ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Spurs must test Sociedad’s resolve for Sucic in January
From a Tottenham point of view, Sucic would be a great fit. He brings technical quality, physicality, power and experience at the highest level, and the sort of dependability that Spurs need in the engine room to compete with the likes of Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur. At 23, the Croat is still relatively young and easily has best years ahead of him, so he could perfectly blend with Tottenham’s long-term vision and strategy.
€25million is a very reasonable price for a player of his quality and ceiling, and the Lilywhites ideally would not hesitate to spend that amount to get Sucic’s signature in January. Sociedad may not allow him to leave in midst of the campaign which has begun in the worst possible manner under the new manager. However, financial pressure could open the door if Spurs agree to trigger the central midfielder’s €25million release clause.
