Manchester United are keen to trump Tottenham Hotspur to Victor Froholdt
Manchester United have been looking to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park when the January window comes around. And the Manchester Reds have been looking at FC Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt.
The Premier League heavyweights are said to be prepping a bid to take him to M16 when the January transfer window opens.
The 19-year-old Danish youngster has become one of the most touted young midfielders on the continent. And given how united they want to get their act together, they are set to do so by fending off Tottenham for his signature.
According to a recent report by Fichajes, the decision-makers at Carrington are set to put an offer on the table and test the waters at Porto. The teenager is under contract with his current employers till 2030 and has a hefty €85 million release clause. But United are convinced that there can be some give-and-take in that number.
Midfield reinforcements are a priority at Old Trafford (much like at Hotspur Way)

We did see Man United spending hefty money in the last summer window when they brought in three marquee forwards. But very similar to Tottenham’s business, there was a lack of needed incomings in the second phase.
While Tottenham are looking to add stability and tenacity to the midfield under Frank, United have some problems of their own.
Looking at United’s roster and their options in the midfield, Casemiro is not the player that they expected him to be when signing him from Real Madrid. Bruno Fernandes has been a bit touch and go since his positional change (Amorim is playing him a bit deeper). And doubts remain over the futures of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte at M16.
And this is where Froholdt is that sort of brief on point for United, given how the Danish youngster has made a big impression with his performances for Porto.
United to test Porto resolve for Victor Froholdt
And given that there is this hefty release clause, United are looking to test Porto’s resolve with an initial offer less than that €85 million figure. They will be hoping to agree on a lower price, but it is tricky given Tottenham are also quite keen on him.
The North Londoners are said to be keeping a close eye on Froholdt and his progress with his current employers. And we know that Tottenham under Vinai are about ambition, which could end up making a big difference.
