Tottenham forward Mathys Tel has opened up on his conversation with Bayern Munich star Harry Kane
Mathys Tel has not had an easy start to the season with Tottenham Hotspur.
Having initially arriving on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy during the winter transfer window, Mathys Tel was signed permanently for a fee of about £30m. He made 20 appearances for Spurs last season, scoring three goals, and was an unused substitute for their victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
The young Frenchman was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad for the League Phase, which was a decision that shocked many, considering that he became new boss Thomas Frank’s first signing at the club on the back of his successful five-month loan spell. Integrating him into the team proved challenging for Thomas Frank, but Mathys Tel never let his frustrations show. Instead, he continued to work tirelessly in training and prove his gaffer wrong.
The 20-year-old’s hard work and character has not gone unnoticed by the Tottenham gaffer, with the forward having started back-to-back Premier League games against Leeds United and Aston Villa. Tel scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Leeds United before the October international break, but struggled to build on it in the defeat to Aston Villa at home on Sunday.

Tel reveals what Bayern Munich star advised him last week
While Tel’s opportunities at Bayern Munich became limited after Harry Kane joined the club from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, he did get to learn from the centre-forward for 18 months before he eventually decided to join the Lilywhites.
In fact, Harry Kane has said that the France Under-21 international has fantastic potential and backed him to shine in the Premier League once he settles down. Tel revealed he spoke to Kane before moving to North London initially, with the experienced striker offering praise about his former club.
Now, Tel has confessed that he remains in touch with the England international, admitting that the 32-year-old gives him a lot of tips on improving various facets of his game. The Sarcelles-born prodigy revealed that Kane is happy to help him with anything, both on and off the pitch.
“Four days ago, he sent me a voice note and we spoke together about how I can be better, about finishing, positioning in the box. He told me ‘whenever you want to call me, just call me. We’re going to talk together and try to find what is the best work for you’”, Tel said in an exclusive interview with The Telegraph.
“It’s very good because he takes his time to talk to me. To explain how I can be better. For me, he’s the best striker in the world.”

Kane- a class act off the pitch too!
Kane is one of the greatest goalscorers in the Premier League and a certified Tottenham legend. Since joining Bayern in 2023, the Englishman has gone a level above and won his career’s first piece of silverware last term. He’s been a great role model and mentor for youngsters, especially Tel, as proved by his words.
Truly, Kane is much more than scoring fantastic goals on the pitch, because he contributes heavily off it too with his advices, helping nature and mentorship. He is a class act, and fans would hope that the England skipper’s guidance helps Tel improve his game and finishing skills.
