Newcastle United set to challenge Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Hayden Hackney
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to bring in a midfield option at Hotspur Way for a while now. And the Lilywhites have been tracking Middlesbrough FC maestro Hayden Hackney for a while now.
Move for Hackney aligns with transfer policy at N17

We have seen how the North Londoners brought in the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. And how the latter’s initial development has become an example for the Premier League heavyweights to follow as they look to bring in more talents at Hotspur Way from the Championship. And that is where the interest in Hackney comes into the picture.
Moreover, a move for him also aligns quite well with the transfer strategy that the Lilywhites have adopted of late in bringing highly acclaimed young players to Hotspur Way.
Tottenham have been looking at him for a while. They also sent scouts to monitor his performances at the UEFA U21 Euros earlier this year.
Newcastle interested in Hackney

And there were reported talks about Tottenham finally materialising their interest in him with a move last summer. There was a price tag that was being discussed among these headlines which came in the region of £25 million. But the transfer didn’t come through, and Hackney ended up staying put in the Championship.
But Tottenham Hotspur are now not the only Premier League club who are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old. He has been gaining interest from a lot of top English-tier clubs, including Lilywhites rivals Newcastle United. Eddie Howe’s side are said to be entering the race for his signature. TTLB Opinion
Middlesbrough would not easily sell him in the winter window given their push for a promotion back to the Premier League. Losing a talent like Hackney in the middle of the season would be a massive blow for the Boroughs.
But it does make sense for Tottenham to sign Hackney. He is one of those smart targets that you want to bring on a bargain before he thrives into his potential.
But given the current need to also bring in midfielders who are ready to have an immediate impact at Hotspur Way. And that is where the club will need to bring in someone to support these kinds of signings. But the interest from Newcastle United definitely doesn’t help Tottenham. Especially given Eddie Howe’s track record with midfielders since he took over the reins at St James’ Park.
