Thomas Frank is yet to be convinced by Tottenham Hotspur star Dominic Solanke
Change is the order of the day at Tottenham Hotspur, and it appears that new manager Thomas Frank may not be convinced by everyone he has inherited from the Ange Postecoglou era.
According to reports from Football Insider, the Danish boss is “not a fan” of Dominic Solanke, the £65 million striker who was a mainstay under Postecoglou last season.
Solanke featured 45 times across all competitions in 2024–25, scoring 16 goals and leading the line with consistency. However, under Frank, the England international’s stock seems to have fallen sharply. Sources inside Hotspur Way suggest the manager “doesn’t fancy” him — a blow for a player who had been trusted as the focal point of Spurs’ attacking play.
Injuries haven’t helped Solanke’s cause either. The 28-year-old has managed only 49 minutes of football this season and has been sidelined since Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City in August. His lingering ankle issues, coupled with a recent surgery, have ruled him out for an extended spell, further clouding his future in North London.
Frank’s Striker Dilemma Deepens

Since his arrival, Thomas Frank has sought to reshape Tottenham’s style, a balance of aggression, discipline, and pressing intensity. But injuries and poor form among his forwards have left him short of options. Solanke’s absence has been particularly felt, even if the manager is unconvinced that he fits the system.
The former Chelsea and Liverpool forward arrived from Bournemouth with a point to prove and looked every bit the modern Premier League striker during Postecoglou’s tenure, strong hold-up play, tireless pressing, and clever link-up movement. Unfortunately, a string of ankle and knee injuries has disrupted that momentum.
Sources close to the club suggest Frank is already eyeing reinforcements in January, eager to bring in a forward more suited to his tactical blueprint. But prising a top-class striker midway through the season is never easy, especially when finances and availability collide.
January Window Frustrations Loom

While Spurs fans would love to see a marquee signing lead the line, those hopes might have to wait. The January transfer window is notoriously tricky, and Tottenham’s hierarchy are well aware of how inflated the market becomes. With limited elite options available, Frank may be forced to make do with his current roster.
That could mean leaning on squad versatility, using players like Richarlison or even Alejo Véliz to share the burden up front until Solanke returns. The Dane’s challenge is to keep Tottenham’s attack firing without upsetting the rhythm that had begun to form earlier in the campaign.
It’s understandable why Thomas Frank wants to stamp his authority and bring in players who match his style, but writing off Dominic Solanke too quickly could be shortsighted. The striker has already shown he can perform at a high level when fully fit, and Tottenham fans know he offers something few others in the squad can, physical presence, intelligent pressing, and a poacher’s instinct.
While the manager’s pragmatism is commendable, there’s still a quality player waiting to be rediscovered once Solanke regains fitness. If Frank can blend his philosophy with the talents already at N17, Spurs won’t just find goals, they’ll find balance.
