Tottenham Hotspur failed with a £50m bid for Antoine Semenyo in the summer
Tottenham Hotspur were looking to bring in a new winger in the summer transfer window, and the North Londoners were looking to sign someone who has proved their credentials in the Premier League. This is what led the Lilywhites to consider a move to bring in Antoine Semenyo.
The Premier League heavyweights were looking to sign the Ghanaian forward from the Cherries. And according to a recent report from Telegraph, the decision-makers at Hotspur Way did submit a £50 million bid to secure his services. But Andoni Iraola & Co. were not entertaining any possible bids for Semenyo.
And as we roll across the season, that potential signing looks more and more damning for the Lilywhites given how Semenyo has been showing signs of being one of the most, if not the most, lethal wingers in the English top tier.
Tottenham looked at Semenyo as a Son replacement

The North Londoners had been looking at Semenyo as an ideal player to take over those left flank reins from Heung Min Son. He has this pace and power to get a strong hold on games. But more than that, Semenyo has that consistent record of goal contributions (something that we have been seeing quite often of late).
But despite this push to sign Semenyo, the bid for his signature came to nothing. Bournemouth ended up agreeing to a new contract with him until 2030. And it was just in time, as his value keeps on soaring given his performances.
Tottenham did bring in Mohammed Kudus, who has been ruling roosts with his performances on that right wing. But the North Londoners still have this massive hole on that left channel. And Semenyo could have brought a lot to this side under Frank there…

Many would suggest that massive bid to be a high-risk bid for Semenyo in the summer. But given how he has been performing this season, it would have been nothing short of a bargain if Tottenham did manage to sign him along the summer and if he were able to replicate similar performances.
Tottenham will be kicking themselves over missing out on him last summer. And now when the Lilywhites put their name on the table again for his services next summer, that fee will be compounded, and then there will also be other clubs interested in his signature, making it more difficult for Spurs to land him.
How big of a miss was Semenyo last summer at that aforementioned fee for Tottenham? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
