Tottenham’s strength in depth…in depth

Following the analysis of Spurs’ weak link in the team, To the Lane and Back will now take an in-depth look at the players that would come in to replace their team-mates through suspensions or injuries and whether they are good enough for the current starting XI.

Spurs’ stars of tomorrow

When Spurs finished fifth last season, Europa League football was guaranteed. Not the premier European competition, but a European competition nonetheless. However, Thursday night football isn’t the most appealing of thoughts and Harry Redknapp, rightfully, prioritised the league over Europe. Yet, it also gave fans the chance to see the likes of Tom Carroll, Jake Livermore and Harry Kane in action and even though it seems unlikely that Spurs will qualify from their group, seeing the youngsters has given us an insight into what to expect in the future.

Yet, as good as our knowledge can be, one man knows that little bit more. So, without further adieu,To the Lane and Back would like to introduce Windy and his analysis of the players coming through the ranks under Tim Sherwood and the stars of the NextGen series.

The weak link in the Spurs team

With Spurs high-flying in the Premiership, it is easy to see why they are being labelled as perennial title contenders. 11 games unbeaten, 10 of which were wins, sees the North Londoners in third place with the potential to rise above Manchester United into second. Therefore, To the Lane and Back has taken the opportunity to determine whether or not the starting XI actually has any weak links?

Should Redknapp be starting Defoe over Van der Vaart?

It is a selection headache that any manager would crave, or even loathe. Jermain Defoe, the pint-sized hit-man, has been in superb form for Tottenham recently, adding to his goal tally with each passing game. But, waiting in the wings is Rafael Van der Vaart. The Dutchman has the ability to make something out of nothing, unlock the most subborn of defences with a simple pass and, once again nearing full-fitness, any fan would love the luxury of calling on the talented midfielder. Both can’t play at the same time so what to do? Claire Needham investigates for To the Lane and Back.

Recently at White Hart Lane

Seeing Tottenham play at the moment is like a dream come true. Beautiful attacking football that has seen the club now go unbeaten in 11 games in the Premiership, winning 10 and rising to third in league.

Tottenham and title contenders in the same sentence? Surely not….

To the Lane and Back simply cannot stop pinching themselves when they look at the table. Are we really in third place? Two points off second?? With a game in hand??? Somebody pinch us we must be dreaming. Alas, despite checking every five minutes, the table still shows Spurs in the top three. Many have even tipped the mighty Lilywhites as title contenders. A step too far? We took the opportunity to decided whether it was.

The 3-1 win over West Brom was Tottenham’s best of the season

#wwwwdwwwww was a favoured trending topic of Tottenham fans on Saturday evening. An excellent run of form that began at the beginning of September following a 2-0 win over Wolves, it is now 10 games unbeaten in the Premiership and a run that has catapulted the North London giants up to third in the table, just two points off second placed Manchester United.

What former Spurs, if any, would get back into our team?

To the Lane and Back couldn’t help but look on in envy as Kevin-Prince Boateng scored an absolute screamer against Barcelona on Wednesday, or even watching Dimitar Berbatov make a rare appearance for United in their 2-2 draw with Benfica. What really got us, however, was the fact that these players were once part of previous Spurs squads so it got us wondering, would they still be part of our starting XI? or even part of the 18-man squad for that matter? We divulged the queries at hand and made our own conclusions.
