Tottenham bounced back from their disappointing defeat to West Ham with an impressive victory against Aston Villa, and host a Hull side who have made a good start to the season.
Andre Villas-Boas was one busy bee this summer. With a huge transfer budget to dig into thanks to the impending Gareth Bale move, he moved for several players. They have made a good start to this season, sitting three points off the top in fifth. But, for me at least, some players haven’t quite hit the mark.
While north London erupted this summer with the arrival of Mesut Ozil and the departure of Gareth Bale, there has been little time for talk of much else. The space that has been left has been dominated by the form of Andros Townsend for both club and country and Arsenal being top of the league, and left the rest on the scrap heap. While Spurs went about spending the millions of pounds they did over the summer, there was a forgotten man who was not ready to let his place in the side go. That man was Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Aston Villa welcome Tottenham to Villa Park looking to continue their 3 match unbeaten run. Tottenham, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat at home to West Ham

It seems extraordinary that Chelsea would even think about letting their Player of the Year go, but it seems as though life isn’t all that sweet for Juan Mata under Jose Mourinho. There were rumours throughout the summer about the Spaniard’s future, and again when he missed the first few games of the season, but the Express are suggesting that Tottenham will be in with a bid in January to rid him of his Stamford Bridge woes. But where would he fit into an already packed midfield?
It seems an exciting time to be a Tottenham fan. Andre Villas-Boas has recruited Brazil international Paulinho, winger Nacer Chadli, French midfielder Etienne Capoue and Spanish striker Roberto Soldado – who has already scored two goals in two games so far this summer. Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen are also both thought to be on their way to White Hart Lane, but without Gareth Bale – who is fancied to finally secure his move to Real Madrid in the coming days, can Spurs think about challenging for the Premier League title? Well, if they were to clinch a deal for Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez, as the Mirror suggest, then I’d argue that they can.
The transfer window is always a testing time for Spurs. The club’s prized assets are linked with a move away from White Hart Lane and it’s always a pain in the backside for the North London side. Nevertheless, it’s always good to take a light hearted approach to the window, as Alan Robins sets out to prove.
With the transfer window gearing up for another busy summer, you can be damn sure that it in full swing at White Hart Lane. With that in mind, Eoghan Mullan takes a look at the areas that need strengthening and which players could be brought in to take Tottenham Hotspur to that next level.
