Ben Davies says he is ‘happy’ Tottenham star Joe Rodon is finding success out on loan at Leeds United
Joe Rodon is one of those players who promised a lot but has still struggled to make himself a first-team regular for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Welsh centre-back has been at Spurs since joining from Swansea City in the summer of 2020. But since then, he has turned out 24 times for Tottenham across competitions.
Antonio Conte didn’t use him a lot and he clearly didn’t find favour under Ange Postecoglou considering he was loaned to Leeds United this summer for the 2023-24 season. Before this, Rodon spent the last campaign at Ligue 1 club with Stade Rennais and had a mixed season, with a few notable performances.
Davies and Rodon regularly link up for the Welsh national team. They are two of their star defenders and have been a regular for their side in recent years.
Spurs’ Welsh stars
Davies, who also left Wales-based outfit Swansea City to join Tottenham Hotspur, praised the 26-year-old centre-back recently, saying, via Football.London:
“Every time I play with him with Wales he is very solid, good on the ball and I think we have a good understanding. To see him have success at Leeds, it really does make me happy. Joe is one of my best mates in football, so we speak all the time.
“He is the type of player that, when he is at somewhere he is feeling valued and he is getting a good run of games, he is a really, really good defender and I think he is showing that right now.”
Is there a future for Rodon at Spurs? It is hard to tell. He has been doing well for Leeds United, making 13 appearances for them as they look to get promoted from the Championship this season.
Spurs can use another centre-back in their ranks after Davinson Sanchez’s departure and Eric Dier’s potential transfer in 2024. Rodon can be a good fit, granted he accepts a secondary role at the club.

Because Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, when fit, will always start the important games for Postecoglou. That is almost set in stone for now. If Rodon does well for Leeds, there is no reason why he can’t be a fourth centre-back under the Greek-Australian manager.
