Tottenham target Ivan Toney is not against ‘free agency’ next summer

Speaking to talkSPORT on their YouTube channel, journalist Ben Jacobs have explained the situation of Tottenham Hotspur target Ivan Toney and has weighed his options out this summer.

Toney has been heavily linked with a move to the N17 this summer, with the player keen on leaving Brentford. Man Utd are another club interested in signing the 28-year-old despite already having Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund for the position.

Jacobs has now added that the player is not totally against the ‘free agency’ option next summer should he not be able to secure a favoured move this summer. Toney is aware that he will get better offers from top clubs if he was a free agent.

One of the best strikers in the Premier League in recent times, Toney is an excellent addition to any top team in the Premier League, unless you are Manchester City. Interestingly, Pep Guardiola called the Bees star ‘a master of the second ball’.

What Toney brings to the table is a knowledge of where the back of the net is. He scores goals and is a presence in both penalty boxes. However, he is not just that with the Englishman often dropping deep to link-up play and provide assists to runners ahead of him. Reminds you of a certain Spurs legend, doesn’t he?

Speaking about the 28-year-old striker, here is what Jacobs had to say about his options this summer

“My understanding is that Toney is not against free agency in 2025. Because it might open up a big club who feel there is a bargain to be had by bringing him in on a free transfer. If he is to go this summer, it’s understood that Brentford would be looking for somewhere in the region of £45-50 million. Manchester United and Spurs are the two clubs to watch.”

£50m for Toney this summer is something that the club can get behind. The player is definitely worth that kind of a price tag and it seems like interest from Tottenham who need a number nine is genuine.

It looks like Spurs are under the assumption that the longer they play this waiting game, the better their chances are to sign Toney on a bargain. With less than a year on his current contract, Brentford are likely to get desperate to sell him.
