Ryan Mason has revealed that he is open to returning to us and assisting in a coaching role after being forced to retire last week following injury complications at the age of just 26.

Mason’s injury woes started after he received a horrific injury while playing against Chelsea in the Premier League a year ago and he was never quite able to fully recover.

During the game against Chelsea, Mason clashed heads with Gary Cahill and was left with a serious skull fracture which left him fighting for his life.

Tottenham occupies a close place in his heart as he is a product of our youth development system.

During an interview with Soccer AM (h/t Sky Sports), Mason revealed that Tottenham is still important to him and added that he would be open to returning to the game in a coaching role.

He said: “I’m going to see what I fall into. But if I was to go down the coaching route, I spent 18 years at Tottenham and that’s my club so I’m sure that would be in my DNA if I was a coach.”

He did, however, add that he is in no rush to make a return to the game and is looking forward to spending time with his family.

“I’m still not sure [what I’ll do next]. I’m just going to see where everything takes me. I’ve only been retired for four or five days so I think I’m going to enjoy a bit of time with my family, see everyone and then see where I want to go with it all.”

It is rather unfortunate that Mason has had to retire at such a young age, even before hitting the peak of his career.

However, he is doing the right thing by calling time on his career as at the end of the day, one’s well-being and future is worth more than playing the game on a competitive level.

He will certainly still have a lot to offer in a coaching capacity.
