Tottenham will allow Eric Dier to leave in the winter window after a tough start to the season (h/t Sun).

The 25-year-old has struggled for form and fitness over the past two seasons under Mauricio Pochettino.

Things have been made tougher for the Englishman with the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele in the summer. Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks have also done reasonably well while Oliver Skipp is in the running for more first-team minutes.

Dier’s time at the club could be coming to an end with the Birmingham Mail (h/t Sun) claiming that Aston Villa are interested in the 25-year-old.

The Villans have had a mixed start to their Premier League campaign but went into the international break with an impressive 5-1 win over Norwich.

Dean Smith has a decent side at his disposal but some Premier League experience could stave off relegation.

The Villa manager made some shrewd signings in the summer, and it will be interesting to see if they made any moves in the January window.

Spurs would need to find a replacement for Dier

Losing the Englishman in the winter window isn’t that big a problem but we need to sign a replacement.

Dier is capable of playing in the defence, and we could do with fresh faces in that department. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have struggled this season while Davinson Sanchez also has had his issues.

The former Sporting Lisbon star has had some great seasons with Spurs, however, Dier has fallen below standards in recent months.
