Key takeaways from Jose Mourinho’s pre-Aston Villa presser
Jose Mourinho ‘s Tottenham Hotspur takes on Aston Villa in a tie that has repercussions at both ends of the table. Spurs can keep pace with Chelsea in the race for fourth while for Aston Villa, every point is a step closer to Premier League survival.
The match also represents Spurs coming up against Jack Grealish. The 24-year old could have been turning out for Tottenham had the clubs been able to agree upon a deal worth £25m in 2018.
Grealish will have the chance to show Spurs exactly what they missed out on this weekend. He has been Villa’s best player by a mile and could represent the biggest threat to Tottenham.
This starts a run of nine games in 34 days for Tottenham that could make or break our season.
We take a look at three key takeaways from Jose Mourinho’s pre-match press conference (Football.London)
On Dele Alli
Mourinho revealed that he had a talk with Dele Alli regarding the player’s rather insensitive post about Coronavirus. The Portuguese manager revealed that Alli is aware of the extent of his transgression and is sorry for what he did.
He went on to say that the player has to be careful while posting on social media. Mourinho admits that the youngster made a mistake, and the matter to be closed following his acceptance and apology. He, however, refused to be drawn into how the FA would react to the incident.
On the winter break
Mourinho explained about the difficulties faced by him on his trip to Germany. He accepted that the break has come at the right time for the players who have been playing regularly all season.
However, Mourinho described playing on Sunday to be far from an ideal situation considering his side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Leipzig midweek.
Leipzig plays in the Bundesliga on Saturday, giving them one extra day to recover when compared to Tottenham.
On Ben Davies return
left-back Ben Davies makes a timely return from injury. Jan Vertonghten has struggled in the position and Mourinho will be glad to have the 26-year-old Welshman back.
Mourinho admitted that although Davies is fit, he isn’t fit enough to play matches at a stretch. He was also pleased at finally having a natural left-back to select from and not a half measure.
