Tottenham to battle Chelsea for Bournemouth’s Aaron Ramsdale
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur will compete with city rivals Chelsea for the signing of Bournemouth’s 21-year old goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The youngster has enhanced his reputation this season with a string of impressive performances in spite of his side struggling to stay out of the relegation zone.
Hugo Lloris is not getting any younger and the likes of Paulo Gazzaniga and Michel Vorm are not at the required level. The Frenchman has made a number of errors this season including three in the last two games which could signal the need to replace him in the foreseeable future.
Having come through the youth ranks at Sheffield United, Ramsdale joined the Cherries in 2016. He made his Bournemouth debut on the opening day of this season and has since established himself as a regular.
Ramsdale has made 102 saves so far this season, a number only bettered by Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka and Arsenal’s Bernd Leno. He has gone on to make 28 appearances for the club in all competitions and has kept four clean sheets.
Spurs are keen to bring in a backup keeper following Vorm’s scheduled departure at this season’s end. Ramsdale will not only be an excellent understudy but could also potentially turn out to be Lloris’s successor.
A familiar rival
Chelsea are also keen on a signing a keeper following Kepa Arzzabalaga’s struggles at the Bridge. The Spaniard has not done justice following his world-record transfer and was recently overlooked in favor of Willy Caballero.he has since returned to the starting lineup following impressive performances against Liverpool and Everton.
The Blues have had the first-hand experience of facing the shot-stopper as he played in both games against them this season. The Cherries won at Stamford Bridge and then were unlucky to only draw 2-2 at home.
Bournemouth rewarded Ramsdale with a new long-term deal in October that runs until 2024. They are determined to retain the youngster and will not want to let him go.
