Tottenham Hotspur cool off interest in Diego Godin
According to sources in Italy (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have decided to call off their pursuit of 34-year-old Inter Milan defender Diego Godin.
Having struggled defensively this season, Tottenham are targeting reinforcements in defence. Moreover, with Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring in the summer, we could potentially be a centre-back short in our ranks. To that end, Inter Milan’s Diego Godin had emerged as a target for Jose Mourinho (h/t Football.london).
The 34-year-old joined Inter only last summer after spending nine years at Atletico Madrid. However, first-team opportunities haven’t been as forthcoming under Antonio Conte as the veteran anticipated.
Godin has started only 12 of Inter Milan’s 26 matches in the Serie A. This has led to him considering a move away from the club (h/t Football.london).
The report states that Tottenham were keen on landing the Uruguayan centre-half, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United. However, our club has now decided to end the interest in the 34-year-old, with a view of bringing in someone younger into the fold.
There is no denying that Godin is one of the modern greats of the game. The defender won a La Liga title and two UEFA Europa League trophies during his time at Atletico Madrid. He is also the most-capped player for the Uruguayan national team with 135 caps.

However, at 34 years of age, Godin would be anything but a long-term solution for our defensive problems. So, it makes sense that the club have decided to cool off interest in the Inter Milan man.
