Mike Maignan being lined up to replace Hugo Lloris at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks with Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan as the eye the 24-year-old as a long-term replacement for club captain Hugo Lloris (h/t Football.London).
Maignan is a product of the PSG academy, but moved to Lille in 2015 in search of first-team opportunities. Till date the 24-year-old has racked up 132 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, keeping 42 clean sheets.
The goalkeeper played a key role last season as Lille finished second in the French top flight and has continued in the same vein of form this time out too. So far in 2019/20, Maignan has made 28 league appearances, shipping in just 27 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets.
It is this kind of form over the past couple of years that has seen Maignan attract admirers in Tottenham Hotspur (h/t Football.London).
The long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris?
It is no secret that Hugo Lloris’ form has been on the wane of late. The Frenchman, who has been with the our club for almost eight years now, has made several high-profile errors, most recently in crucial matches against RB Leipzig and Burnley. This has cast doubts over his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (h/t Football.London).
Backup goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga got an extended run in the first-team earlier this season, but flattered to deceive, while Michel Vorm will be out of contract in the summer. So, bringing in a new goalkeeper should be a priority for the club heading into the next transfer window.

Maignan, going by his performances for Lille, would be the ideal candidate to take over the No. 1 spot from our captain. To that end, the club have held talks with 24-year-old over the possibility of a summer transfer (h/t Football.London).
The report also adds that it might take a transfer fee in excess of £20m to convince Lille to part with their first-choice goalkeeper.
