Report – The 3 positions that Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen at Tottenham this summer

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wants to splash more cash in the coming months

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour has claimed that Jose Mourinho wants to sign players for three positions (h/t Express).

The boss was able to land a couple of stars during the winter window. Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes moved to London, however, Mou has more plans to rebuild Spurs.

We did complete the signing of on-loan star Giovani Lo Celso too, but Mourinho wants to land a right-back, centre-back and a midfielder.

Gilmour was quoted as saying (h/t Express):

“Well from what I’m hearing the priority areas if business can be done will be centre-back, right-back and a central defensive midfielder.”

However, the reporter added that we could move for another position, a back-up to Harry Kane:

“I don’t think you can rule out a backup striker either, given that they tried to get [Odion] Ighalo, [Olivier] Giroud and a few others in January, and it’s usually easier to pick up a bargain in the summer months.”

Tottenham looking at a huge rebuilding job

Gilmour’s predictions do seem to hint at a lot of work for our board. The right-back position has been a problem for a while, which was magnified after the sale of Kieran Trippier.

Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier haven’t been consistent with Walker-Peters being sent out on loan in January.

Jan Vertonghen is out of a contract in the summer (h/t Daily Mail), and our centre-back options are only Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth.

Eric Dier, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele can all play the defensive midfielder’s role. However, neither of them have had a great season.

It will also be interesting to see how much money we can splash once the window opens. Gilmour added that the coronavirus pandemic will affect the transfer market with more loan deals in the offering.

Spurs have already used that method well by landing Lo Celso and Gedson on loan, and hopefully, we sign the right players once the window does open.
