Tottenham interested in Barcelona star Arthur Melo
Tottenham are interested in Barcelona’s Arthur, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Mail). The report adds that Inter Milan are also keen on the Brazilian and will battle Spurs for his signing.
Arthur joined Barcelona in 2018 and already has the La Liga title under his belt. The 23-year-old made 23 appearances for Barca this season and has four goals to his name.
Arthur can play in a deeper role too but Barcelona have several options in their midfield. Frenkie de Jong signed at the start of the season while Carles Alena and Riqui Puig are two promising talents on their books.
Barca are also interested in Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and the Italians have asked about Arthur’s availability (h/t Daily Mail).
Tottenham could send one player the other way
Spurs could use one of their signings to get hold of the midfielder. The report claims that Barca are interested in Tanguy Ndombele and Tottenham could send the Frenchman to the Catalans.
Ndombele signed for us amidst a lot of fanfare at the start of this campaign for £53.8m. However, things haven’t gone his way in London.
He started slowly under Mauricio Pochettino but picked up several minor injuries that disrupted his flow. However, Jose Mourinho replaced Pochettino later in the season. Things haven’t been great for Ndombele since then.
The former Lyon star was criticised by Mourinho before being asked to participate in a training session during the coronavirus lockdown.
Ndombele is a France international and he might need more time to adjust to the Premier League and Mou’s style.
A swap deal would not be the worst option in the world as Ndombele could get a fresh start. The report adds that Inter and Spurs can hand Arthur a significantly better pay package than Barcelona.
