Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot on Jose Mourinho’s radar
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to reunite with former ward and Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot. This claim comes from Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones.
Dalot signed for Manchester United from Portuguese outfit FC Porto in 2018. But the 21-year-old has found it hard to carve out a place for himself in the Red Devils’ first-team. Having battled with injuries, the Porto academy graduate finds himself behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order.
Mourinho, though, rates Dalot very highly. Our manager had praised the youngster heavily after his Premier League debut against Arsenal back in December 2018 (h/t The Sun).
“Diogo was fantastic and I think Gary Neville must be thinking now we have right back for the next ten years.”
However, with Wan-Bissaka the firm favourite for the right-back slot, Dalot could be sold, according to reports, leading to Mourinho’s potential interest in the full-back.
Right-back slot an issue
Having allowed Kieran Trippier to leave last summer without bringing in a replacement, the right-back slot has become a problematic position for us. Serge Aurier has impressed going forward, but defensively he is a huge liability.
Kyle Walker-Peters also does not feature in Jose’ plans, given that he loaned the academy man out in January. Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth have been used as makeshift full-backs, but they haven’t been convincing enough. This warrants the signing of a new right-back before the next season kicks off.

Dalot, despite having played little, has done well when given a chance. Young and filled with potential, our manager clearly rates the youngster highly. It remains to be seen if there is any truth to these rumours though.
