Tottenham consider selling Serge Aurier this summer
Tottenham Hotspur are seriously considering the prospect of offloading Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier in the summer transfer window. This claim comes from a report from the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2017 from PSG. But he hasn’t really been able convincing enough during his time in North London.
Aurier had to play second-fiddle to Kieran Trippier for most of his first two seasons at our club. Becoming the first-choice in the ongoing campaign, the Ivorian has been decent going forward, contributing with 2 goals and 7 assists in 33 matches. Defensively though, he has been a major liability for us.
Moreover, the 27-year-old courted controversy after breaching lockdown rules on Tuesday, when he trained with teammate Moussa Sissoko flouting social distancing rules. Following the incident, the pair were made to issue an apology by the club and had to make a donation to the NHS (h/t Daily Mail).
Tottenham are believed to be keen on strengthening the right-back department heading into the next season. Our first-team squad has just two natural right-sided full-backs in Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters. Moreover, The latter joined Southampton on loan in January.
Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth have been used in the right-back. But the results weren’t always favourable. It is imperative that the club recruits a new right-back in the summer. But selling Aurier might deplete our options further.

Aurier’s contract with our club runs till the summer of 2022. The 27-year-old has courted interest from Serie A heavyweights AC Milan of late.
Given the dearth of options in the right-back slot, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham do go through with the Ivory Coast international’s sale in the summer transfer window.
