Jose Mourinho could sell Serge Aurier
Tottenham pair Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko landed themselves into hot water recently.
The pair were training together flouting lockdown regulations. Aurier even shared videos of this on social media.
Jose Mourinho had also fallen foul to social distancing and lockdown norms when he took Tanguy Ndombele out for training a while back.
Aurier and Sissoko both apologised for their misdemeanour and pledged to support the NHS (h/t Express). However, former England star Kevin Phillips believes there could be further action taken.
Phillips was speaking to Football Insider and claimed Aurier would be let go (h/t Express).
“Mourinho will want a couple of transfer windows to get rid of people. Aurier, probably, one that will go.”
However, the former striker believed Sissoko would stay (h/t Express).
“Sissoko is a great player and he has been a massive miss for them this year and I think he will stay.”
Phillips added that the gaffer is still spending time learning about his players and having to deal with a lot of off-field issues as well (h/t Express).
Mou replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November last year but things haven’t really clicked for him yet.
Time for Aurier’s goodbye?
Phillips is right in suggesting that Sissoko would remain given how important the Frenchman has become in recent years.
He fought hard under Pochettino and became a regular for us in the previous campaign. However, the story has been different for Aurier.
The former PSG defender has struggled for consistency at Spurs and has been linked with a move away.
Selling Aurier would put us into a dilemma with a lack of senior right-backs. We didn’t sign a replacement for Kieran Trippier at the start of the campaign, while Kyle Walker-Peters was allowed to leave on loan in the January window.
