Lille beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Isaac Lihadji

According to French publication Foot Mercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have lost out to Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille in the race to sign French wonderkid Isaac Lihadji.

The youngster who turned 18 earlier this month came through the youth system at Olympique Marseille. He made his senior debut this season and has made two appearances so far.

A right-winger by trade, he has made numerous appearances for his country at different age groups. He has so far won 31 caps combined from the Under -16 to the Under-19 French national sides.

His performances have caught the eye of a number of European heavyweights. The likes of Bayern Munch, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Juventus, and Valencia are all keeping tabs on the youngster. (h/t Football.london)

His current deal at the Orange Velodrome expires at the end of this season. The player has been engaged in negotiations regarding an extension, but do far of no avail (h/t Football.london).

According to French radio station RMC (h/t Football.london), Marseille had pulled out of negotiations, paving the way for Lihadj to leave on a free.

With his future lying elsewhere, he has taken the decision to stay back in his home county rather than make the move across the channel to North London (h/t Football.london).

Ironically, Lille could be one of the sides we could be involved in making transfers with. Tottenham have been linked with a move for Lille stars Boubakary Soumare, Victor Osimhen, and Gabriel Magalhaes.

The non-playing staff has also been a matter of much speculation with Lille sporting director Luis Campos also linked with a move to London.

With Mourinho looking to rebuild Tottenham, it is natural that the team will look to supplement the youth ranks with the best talents. Landing Lihadji would have been a good start for is, especially since he would have done so on a free.

The 18-year-old was part of the French Under-17 side that finished third at the Under-17 World Cup in 2019.
