Barcelona and Tottenham to battle for Michal Karbownik
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Mail), Barcelona have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Legia Warsaw left-back Michal Karbownik.
The 19-year-old is a product of the Legia Warsaw academy. He broke into the first-team in the 2019/20 campaign and has made a solid impression so far. In 22 first-team appearances till date, Karbownik has produced six assists, which are impressive numbers for a left-back.
This has led to a flurry of interest in Karbownik with Barcelona and Tottenham being the biggest names eyeing a move for the teenage defender. (h/t Daily Mail)
Tottenham’s left-back department will be depleted this summer as Danny Rose, who is currently on loan at Newcastle United, could be offloaded on a permanent basis. This would leave Ben Davies as the only senior left-back in the squad.
While Ryan Sessegnon was signed last summer, the youngster has looked more at home in a more attack-minded role. So, adding another young, dynamic left-back wouldn’t be the worst idea for our club. This makes Karbownik a viable target for the North Londoners.
The report further adds that Karbownik could be available for a transfer fee somewhere between £7m and £9m, which could be a steal for someone with his entire career ahead of him. However, the fact that a host of clubs are interested in signing the 19-year-old complicates matters for us a little.
