Chelsea join Tottenham in pursuit of Napoli ace Arkadiusz Milik
According to reputed journalist Alfredo Pedulla (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur will have to battle against arch rivals Chelsea in the race to sign Napoli and Poland centre-forward Arkadiusz Milik in the summer transfer window.
Milik, 26, has emerged as a transfer target for Spurs as the club eyes a backup for star striker Harry Kane. However, their plans to sign the Polish international have just gotten complicated by Chelsea’s entrance into the fray. (h/t Express)
Milik has been with Napoli since 2016, having signed from Dutch giants Ajax. The 26-year-old has scored 46 goals in over 100 appearances for the Serie A giants during his time in Italy. The ongoing campaign though has seen him miss a number of games. In spite of that, he has managed to find the back of the net on 12 occasions.
With Milik’s contract expiring next year, Tottenham were reported to be eyeing him as an option to bolster their centre-forward department.
The lack of depth in the centre-forward department has been a major problem for our club this season. Harry Kane had been shining bright until the turn of the year, when he suffered a hamstring injury. Injuries to Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn soon after severely depleted the options at manager Jose Mourinho’s disposal.
A new striker coming through the doors in the next transfer window is a must at Tottenham. This had led to the interest in Milik. However, Chelsea’s entry could complicate matters as they might be able to offer Champions League football to the Pole, as things stand.
